DIY Landscaping Ideas for Front Yard

If your lawn is brown and your grass appears to be dying, then it could be that the dirt in your front yard doesn’t have the proper nutrients in it. However, if you go to the Hickory NC equipment rental company, then you can rent yard equipment and use it to till and enrich the soil. That is just one of the killer tips you can use to boost your front yard’s curb appeal.

Here are a few more tips to help you get your lawn back in shape with some DIY landscaping projects and other ideas:

Add a Sprinkler System

Get Rid of Weeds

Weeds are invasive plants that can choke out and kill your grass. If you rent yard equipment such as a hoe or a weeder, then you can dig up the weeds and save your lawn from disaster. Or, you can kill the weeds with an herbicide.

Dethatch Your Lawn

Thatch is the collection of organic debris that you find in-between the blades of grass in your lawn. It can cause dead spots to appear and allow weeds to invade the lawn. Be sure to get rid of this debris by using a thatching rake or a powered rake. It can take about a month for the front yard to recover, but it should do so with proper care.

Aerate Your Lawn

Inspect your grass for problems of compaction by digging out a section of grass and looking closely at the roots. If the roots are less than two inches in depth, you need to aerate it. You can go to the Hickory NC equipment rental company and rent a core aerator to use on the yard. Then, put down some compost or some sand as part of one of your DIY landscaping projects.

Plant, Fertilize, Mow Grass Correctly

Be sure to rent a broadcast seed spreader to plant some grass seed like fescue, rye, or other varieties. Be sure to water it too so it can get started. Once your grass grows out, be sure to mow it correctly and only take off a third of the top so it will stay healthy and strong. Be sure to put down some fertilizer several times during the year.
