Landscape Design Major
major fuses the creative aspects of art and design with the technical and scientific aspects of horticulture. The discipline involves the analysis, planning, design, implementation and sustainable management of natural and constructed environments.
Our Landscape Horticulture concentration within the Plant Science major is well suited for students considering careers in turf management, environmental horticulture, landscape contracting and management, ornamental plant production and nursery and garden center marketing.
The Landscape Design concentration within the Plant Science major is for students interested in careers focused on landscape design and construction. This concentration also prepares students to attend graduate school and become landscape architects.
Outcomes: Students are prepared to enter the workforce in varied careers including; professional athletic field management, landscape designers, teaching horticulture in public schools, plant marketing, greenhouse management and botanic and display gardens.
Structure: You get a solid coursework foundation in the areas of botany, soils and soil fertility, herbaceous and woody plant materials, landscape design and construction, computer aided drafting and surveying.
Uniqueness: Our impressive facilities on campus related to landscape design include a state of the art design studio, extensive botanic garden, wetlands, ecology woodlot and computer labs for computer aided drafting. We are also in close proximity to world class botanic and display gardens.
